The Bloodhound Education Centre
The new Bloodhound Education Centre has a large space ideal for classroom style and family activities, presentations and larger scale workshops. Due to the impact of Covid-19, we are currently able to offer visits for small groups of up to 30. We have enough space to deliver an inspirational enriching experience while still maintaining social distancing measures.
The Centre also has a Bloodhound Heritage area focusing on the past 10 years of the Bloodhound SSC Project with interactive features, simulators and a VR experience available. See what a couple of schools said recently …
Our hands-on workshops and interactive presentations give practical hands-on opportunities for learners of all ages and our facilities allow us to give plenty of room for families to feel comfortable in the space.
We offer a showcase for science, technology and engineering with demonstration of applications and careers.
Proposed format of ½ day (3 hour session)
Seating will be allocated to each household as explained in the booking. Each family group and workstation will be at least 2 metres apart from the other households attending. Parents will be expected to supervise their own children and use of the facilities will be on a ‘one family at a time’ basis. Each household will be encouraged to bring their own refreshments.
Starting with an interactive presentation, visitors will learn about not only the history of land speed, but the science and engineering pioneers who have changed the world we live in today.
Following a short break in the ‘theatre’ area, households will be allocated a workstation each and instructions will be given how to use the resources.
In their household group, they will build a Bloodhound Blaster Car using basic materials by …
engineering solutions and problem solving to make the strongest, lightest car,
maximising the effect of the nozzle, ensuring the wheels are perfectly round and centred,
considering friction and drag while learning about additive manufacturing through the process of layering.
During the allocated time, each household in turn can have a walk around the full size Bloodhound car, learning about the the science, engineering & technology involved in constructing and running a land speed record car.
Households will be given an activity sheet to use at home enabling them to test and record the Bloodhound Blaster car’s performance and encouraged to use the additional resources online.
Invited back to the theatre area for a wrap up by the team, a goodie bag will be available to collect on the way out as household groups leave the Education Centre one at a time.
